OLIVOS BY DESIGN.................
Once upon a time in the early 18th Cenutry, the Clavero family built their ¨Cortijo¨ which housed several patios, an olive mill as well as the living quarters of the farm´s workers and their livestock. Situated in the picturesque ¨Serranía de Ronda¨ mountain range, delightful owner Juán Clavero tells me this area is considered to have the most pleasant climate of the region in the summer months owing to the refreshing breeze that sweeps through the hills – the exact reason for which the Romans originally inhabited this same terrain. Just 8km from Ronda´s historic city centre in an intimate rural setting, Molino del Arco opened its doors as a Hotel in 2004.
The 22 spacious, tastefully decorated bedrooms are all different in design and have been appropriately named after a different variety of olive. Some Junior Suites and Suites feature a balcony or terrace and have a separate sitting room. Some Double rooms offer direct access to the Hotel´s landscaped patios. For that extra touch of romance, one of the Suites has a Jacuzzi and a wood-burning fireplace. Room amenities include television, heating and air-conditioning, wireless internet access and hair dryer. A safety deposit box is available in reception.
The Hotel´s lovely restaurant has been cleverly situated on the first floor. Dining guests will surely appreciate the impressive views of the surrounding countryside, whilst tasting the creations of resident chef David Fernández. Healthy Mediterranean cuisine, using the freshest produce of the region (including vegetables from the Hotel´s own veggie garden), is his specialty. The extensive wine list – all Spanish, of course! – includes a superb collection from Ronda´s eight vinyards.
In the main building, an exquisite salon is ideal for relaxing or enjoying pleasant conversation with other guests. The use of colour evokes a sense of calm and the attention to detail will not go unnoticed. A mixture of old world charm and contemporary elegance together create a comfortable, yet sophisticated ambience. Cosy sofas and a larga plasma TV can be found in a loft-like sitting room off the main patio.
Birdwatchers, be sure to bring your binoculars; this area is home to more than 250 species of birds. Many can even be seen in their 10,000 square-metre Moorish-inspired garden designed by the late Miguel Fisac, known as the most innovative architect in 20th Century Spain. Those of you with green thumbs will surely appreciate the dedicated work of the gardeners. Do keep in mind that just as the Hotel has only been open for two years, the garden is also young and has yet to reach its full potential.
A new ¨chiringuito¨, a typical Spanish beach bar, has just been built near the swimming pool, where salads and sandwiches are on offer in the warmer months.
Various activities such as walking and hiking (guides available), horse-riding, balloon rides, quad adventures and bicycle hire can all be arranged in reception with advance notice. Juan and his team will cater to your every whim, making your stay a special one.
An ideal hotel if you are looking for peace, tranquility and personalised service in a splendid rural setting.
