SPOONS, KNIVES AND FORKS ..............
If you are looking for creature comforts then this is one for you. A magnificently restored old Mallorquin finca some of which dates back to 1672. It is on a grand scale and upon entering you find yourself in an impressive hallway and reception room with huge glass floor to ceiling windows leading onto the patio courtyard. An archway leads the eye to a most original fountain made of two metre high spoons! It is a very stylish Hotel. Original works of art by artists such as Hockney, Warhol and Chagall adorn the walls. There is even a small chapel and many foreigners have wedding “blessings” here.
The lovely landscaped gardens and lawns give way to far reaching views over the valley of Puigpunyent. Tranquility abounds. The many terraces offer relaxing areas to sit and listen to the peace.
An inviting 30 metre swimming pool set on a terrace overlooking the village is spectacular. On the terrace below are a Jacuzzi and a further smaller pool with fountains for children to play in. The hotel also offers private “cabanas” with your own sun loungers and shade for daily rental around the pool.
The 24 luxury bedrooms and suites combine the old with the new and have all the luxuries you would expect of this category of hotel. All are grand and several have four poster beds. They even offer a home cinema package in your room that comes complete with popcorn!!
There is a beauty centre for treatments and massages and a sauna. For the more energetic there is a gymnasium and a tennis court.
Breakfasts are a sumptuous affair (and can even be booked in your room at an extra cost as the “Breakfast surprise” for your loved one!!), however, the culinary highlight of the Gran Hotel Son Net is its acclaimed restaurant, L’Orangerie. This is in the old olive pressing room and is a stunning setting. The partners to the spoons that form the fountain mentioned above, two metre high knives and forks form very novel screens within the restaurant. The food is imaginatively presented and this is without doubt one of the best restaurants on the island. It offers a mix of Mediterranean and International cuisine – each dish is lovingly presented.
From mid-May to the end of September the Gazebo Grill serves freshly grilled meats and fish from an old stone oven on a terrace near the pool.
An ideal Hotel for those who want a grand historical building in a wonderful rural setting. Pampering at its best and a gourmet restaurant. Excellent for honeymoons.
Gran Hotel Son Net has been featured in Vogue Magazine and the restaurant, L’Orangerie has received many international accolades.
